The Universal Theosophy website and its programs are an independent endeavor, run entirely by volunteers, and made possible by donations from our online community.
We are reaching out to a new generation of Theosophical Students. We seek to connect them with meetings and discussion groups available all over the world that are established in different time zones and in different languages.
Here are what the funds are needed for:
- To support a vigorous content addition program (See list below)
- Funds to support the completion on the online Secret Doctrine Project (Less than half completed)
- Funds to modernize and optimize the UT site as a whole. (Nearly complete)
- Establish and Maintain a monthly newsletter/blog The Vortex (Completed: To be announced in April)
- Run Spring and Fall Lecture Series (Ongoing)
- Run Special Events: White Lotus Day, ULT Day, Great Teachers Day
- Maintain daily posts to a Facebook page of over 2,000 subscribers
Online Secret Doctrine Project Outlined:
This edition includes the following:
- Updated spelling of all technical terms, names, and referenced texts.
- Corrected and updated references, given in clearly marked reference notes.
- Updated grammar, punctuation, capitalization, etc.
- Updated quotations, as cross-referenced with original sources.
- Identification of all quotations, updated terms, unknown terms, esoteric source material, etc. by colorized text.
All changes are tracked in a Table of Updates, in which explanations of changes are given along with links to sources. The project can be seen online here: https://universaltheosophy.com/hpb/secretdoctrine.html.
The primary idea is to provide an edition that is up to current scholarly standards and can be easily used by students as well as academics and researchers.
Content Addition Effort Outlined
- Digitize and consistently format all of Blavatsky’s writings.
◦ Note that approximately 70% of writings have been uploaded to date
- Digitize our primary theosophical periodicals, including:
◦ Theosophy magazine, The Theosophist and Lucifer (for the time HPB was editor), The Path, Manas Magazine (scanning is nearly complete), The Aryan Path, The Theosophical Movement.
- Update, modernize and standardize terminology, grammar, and source referencing to modern academic standards.
◦ This is especially important so that the database uses consistent spelling of terms, which makes it possible to implement detailed word searching and research.
- Develop a searchable online database and concordance (similar to digital biblical concordances) for the writings of HPB and WQJ.
